While
we are confident that your little
champ will be an A-list player,
we do require each player to attend
a one-day training camp session
prior to being accepted as an official
team member. During this training
camp day, our coaches will evaluate
your dog's individual behavior and
skill level to determine the appropriate
team for him to play with. We test
each player for ease of handling,
current social skills among teammates,
temperament, play style, and their
obedience level.
At the end of the day, we provide
you with a report on how your champ
performed, as well as which team
we feel he is best suited for. We
have found that these initial evaluation
days are as beneficial to you and
your pet as they are to us. Your
dog will also report back to you
if he enjoyed his day. He'll be
excited to see you when you pick
him up from his first day, but soon
after you get home you should find
that he is tired out. This is an
indication that he had plenty of
fun and enjoyed playing with his
new teammates.
While most dogs make the team without
any problem, there are times when
we feel a player is not quite ready
for team play. Should that be the
case, your dog's coach will give
you some suggestions on how he can
improve his game, such as starting
with some group “practice” sessions.
We do, however, reserve the right
to not admit a dog to our “stadium”
if we feel that is necessary or
in your dog's best interest.
The
fun at Rompin' Rovers begins when
you drop your dog off! Players will
be matched with other dogs of their
size and temperament on one of our
spacious playing fields for a full
day of play. Playtimes are fully
supervised by our coaching staff
and are accompanied with training
games and behavior modification
activities, where the Rompin' Rovers
coaching staff will interact with
the dogs as a group and individually.
We have two games per day. Our first
game starts at 8:30am and goes until
noon. Players are then able to go
relax in their appointed locker
rooms for a cool down, rest, lunch
(if desired and provided), and get
an energizing snack and plenty of
fresh, cool water. We start our
afternoon game at 2:00pm and go
until about 5:00pm, after which
players are again allowed to cool
off and refresh themselves as they
wait to go home. If the player is
staying overnight, he will have
dinner, some free time, and then
a night game before bedtime.
Positive reinforcement, safety,
cleanliness, and fun are our priority
at Rompin' Rovers. Playgrounds and
all used equipment are cleaned daily.
Potty incidents are expected and
cleaned immediately. Aggressive
dogs are not allowed on the playground.
If your dog has an aggressive temperament,
we will recommend a training program
to help improve this behavior.
Overnight
care is also high on our list of
standard services that we offer
to our clients. Rest assured that
while you are away, your special
player will enjoy playing with his
teammates on his home field. Each
dog staying overnight with us will
participate in our game day daycare
program on a daily basis. This includes
over 6 hours of playtime during
the day, plus a night game for those
staying overnight. Each player will
be designated a private locker room
for rest periods during the day
and for personal sleeping quarters
at night.
All players staying overnight with
us are required to come in for a
day of training camp prior to their
first stay, as this helps to acclimate
your dog to our surroundings and
routines. Please see our training
camp page for more information.
Our
goal is to make your dog as happy
and as comfortable as if they were
at home. We love being trusted to
take extra special care of your
pet during your absence. At night,
we let our guest settle in and unwind
while they watch some of their favorite
programs on Animal Planet before
their night game. When it is time
for lights out, we turn on soothing
music to sleep by.
Practice
Whether
your champ needs to brush up on
his skills or develop some new ones,
we have practice classes suited
to get you and your dog both stepping
up to the plate! All of our classes
are based on positive reinforcement
techniques, and our coaches can
help you find solutions to any type
of problem you may already have.
Even better, they can provide you
with proven techniques in order
to avoid the development of behavior
problems.

Puppy Prep Class
A
fun-filled, educational class for
all dogs less than one year of age.
This class helps to build the human/dog
bond by using a variety of games
and behavior lessons. Teaching in
a group session allows for socialization,
which is a very important aspect
of puppy development. In this class,
you will learn about your dog's
behavior, proper dog care and handling
techniques, correct use of toys
and treats in training, and much
more. The basic commands - such
as sit, come, down, wait, drop it,
give, leave it, and stay - are just
a few of the behaviors that will
be covered in this class. This class
meets weekly for 7 consecutive weeks.

Basic Obedience
This
class is suitable for all dogs over
one year of age, regardless of any
previous training. For puppies who
have graduated from the Puppy Prep
Class, it will help to reinforce
the positive behaviors learned therein.
For slightly older dogs who have
never had any formal obedience training,
it will serve as a great start.
The basic commands - such as sit,
come, down, wait, drop it, give,
leave it, stay, place, and loose
leash walking - are just some of
the behaviors learned in this exciting
class. Your dog will also enjoy
learning several new tricks and
games. Again, because this class
is taught in a group format, it
provides for socialization between
other dogs and other humans. This
course meets weekly for 7 consecutive
weeks.

Advanced Canine Good Citizenship
This
advanced class continues to build
on the basic commands, but with
added degrees of difficulty, such
as introducing distractions. In
this class, you are encouraged to
expose your dog to all manner of
situations, including noisy areas
and/or equipment, other dogs, people,
and distractions like wheelchairs,
crutches, and walkers—all common
distractions that can cause some
dogs to react poorly if they have
not been properly introduced to
them. Prior obedience training is
required before attending this course.
With the skills taught in this class,
your dog can earn an official Canine
Good Citizen certificate from the
American Kennel Club.

Flyball Class
This
class prepares your ball-loving
dog for competition as a valuable
member of the Rompin’ Rovers flyball
team. If your pooch loves to run
and fetch a tennis ball, then maybe
it's time to take it to the next
level. Flyball focuses on using
a dog's natural desire to play fetch,
but in the form of a team relay
race. Working with your dog in this
manner strengthens the dog/human
bond and greatly increases the dog's
ability to take direction from you
in an off-leash situation. One warning:
these classes are so much fun, you
and your dog may become addicted.
